The Opportunity with Mc Kinstry

We are adding a Senior Project Development Engineer to our growing National Distributed Energy Resources division. You will lead and support engineering development solutions and projects, identifying viable applications of Solar PV & Energy Storage. You will identify and analyze technical solutions in existing and new commercial facilities. As a Solar Engineer, additional responsibilities include:

Responsibilities
  • Business Development:
    Develop new methods for improving energy calculation templates to increase efficiency and accuracy; retrofit projects that target existing mechanical system problems and improve comfort, maintainability, reliability and system longevity; develop practical solutions based on sound engineering design principles; work with the Business Development and Program Management staff to establish tactical solutions and strategic sales approaches for project proposals.
  • Communication:
    Demonstrates regional subject matter leadership in Solar and Energy Storage by staying at the forefront of the technology and deploying knowledge to other departments such as project development, project management, sales and estimating; act as steward of McKinstry culture, communicating and influencing policies and procedures; ability to communicate information clearly and concisely in writing and verbally.
  • Team Management:
    Demonstrates subject matter leadership in Solar and Energy Storage; collaborates with, plans for, schedules, supervises, delegates, and provides feedback to energy engineering team members; trains and mentors staff; coordinates equipment selections and with Program Managers to develop the scope of work; assists in planning and leading training sessions for design staff.
  • Project Management:
    Lead and support project development efforts for solar and battery storage projects; manage third-party engineer of record (EOR) drawing sets; develop strategies, goals and objectives for project execution; prepare project risk reviews, project pricing workbooks, and energy calculations; demonstrate proficiency in writing, reviewing, and editing technical documentation; perform other duties as assigned.
What You Need To Succeed At Mc Kinstry
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio); working knowledge of SharePoint preferred.
  • Experience with Helioscope, PVsyst, Energy Toolbase, CAD, PVWatts, NREL System Advisor Model; familiarity with industry standard calculation methods including shading, soiling, and snow soiling calculations.
  • Thorough understanding of ESPC contracting; good understanding of building and energy codes (National Electric Code, International Fire Code, International Building Code); understanding of incentive programs and processes.
  • 12+ years’ experience with a Professional Engineer license or 16+ years’ experience without certification; at least eight (8) years must be Solar and/or Energy Storage Engineering experience.
  • 2-7 years of solar or electrical design experience preferred; working knowledge of estimating preliminary budgets for Solar and Energy Storage projects.
  • NABCEP registration preferred; LEED AP registration a plus;
    Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification a plus;
    Master’s degree in Renewable Energy and/or Energy specialization a plus.
