Overview

Position Title: Senior Facilities Engineer

Department: Operations

Location: DJ Basin, Colorado (Office and Field-Based)

Reports to: Vice President Field Operations

Salary Range: $165,000 - $195,000

Job Summary

The Facilities Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, optimization, and regulatory compliance of onshore oil and gas production facilities in the DJ Basin, Colorado. This role works closely with field operations, maintenance, and HSE personnel to ensure safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operation of production and midstream facilities while meeting all applicable Colorado and federal regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Lead new facility build capital projects from concept through commissioning
  • Coordinate with construction, commissioning, and startup teams to ensure facilities are built and operated per design and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with budgeting, cost estimating, and economic evaluations for facility improvements and compliance-driven projects
  • Design, evaluate, and optimize onshore oil and gas facilities, including separators, heater treaters, tanks, vapor recovery units (VRUs), compressors, produced water handling, and associated pipelines
  • Source equipment pertaining to new build pads, revisits, and maintenance activities
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to field operations by troubleshooting facility and equipment issues and developing practical, field-ready solutions
  • Maintain strong collaboration with field operators, foremen, maintenance technicians, and inspectors to improve facility performance and operational efficiency
  • Ensure full compliance with Colorado regulations, including ECMC, CDPHE air quality rules, spill prevention, emissions control, and safety requirements
  • Lead and support permitting, compliance documentation, and regulatory audits related to facility design, construction, and operation
  • Develop and maintain PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, operating procedures, and as-built documentation
  • Manage engineering firms or drafting companies as needed
  • Support emissions reduction initiatives, including LDAR programs, VRU optimization, and equipment upgrades to meet Colorado air and climate regulations
  • Participate in and lead HAZOPs, MOCs, PHAs, and risk assessments with a strong focus on environmental and community impact
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Petroleum Engineering (or related discipline)
  • 5+ years of experience in onshore oil and gas facilities engineering, preferably in the DJ Basin or Rocky Mountain region
  • Strong working knowledge of Colorado oil and gas regulations, including ECMC, CDPHE, and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Experience supporting field operations and working directly with operations and maintenance personnel
  • Proficiency with engineering and documentation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Pipesim, AutoCAD, Excel)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate engineering solutions into practical field execution
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
  • Experience with emissions control technologies and regulatory-driven facility upgrades
  • Familiarity with onshore compression, VRUs, tank batteries, and produced water systems
  • Experience working in highly regulated operating environments
