Senior Mechanical Engineer – Satellite Manufacturing (New Space)
Our client, a rapidly growing satellite manufacturing and platform developer in the US New Space ecosystem, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the development of next-generation spacecraft. This is a hands‑on position offering full lifecycle ownership, from early concept through launch and on-orbit operations.
What You’ll Do:- Lead mechanical design and analysis of satellite structures and subsystems, including primary and secondary structures, panels, brackets, and mechanisms.
- Own hardware through the full lifecycle: requirements definition, trade studies, detailed design, analysis, manufacturing, integration, and test.
- Perform and review structural and thermal‑mechanical analyses, including static, modal, random vibration, and shock, to support qualification and flight readiness.
- Produce and maintain engineering documentation, including detailed drawings, tolerance analyses, interface control documents (ICDs), and manufacturing work instructions.
- Collaborate closely with systems, thermal, electrical, propulsion, and AIT teams to ensure robust subsystem integration.
- Support environmental test campaigns (vibration, thermal vacuum, acoustic), including test planning, execution, and anomaly resolution.
- Drive design for manufacturability, assembly, and cost (DFM/DFA/DFC) in a production‑oriented satellite platform environment.
- Review supplier designs, manage technical interfaces, and support vendor selection and qualification.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of mechanical design standards and best practices.
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in space, aerospace, or high‑reliability hardware.
- Strong background in satellite structures, mechanisms, or spacecraft subsystems.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (Solid Works, NX, Creo, or similar).
- Experience taking hardware through qualification and/or flight.
- Hands‑on, detail‑oriented approach suited to a fast‑paced New Space environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
