The Principal Electrical Engineer responsibilities include the design and layout of power plant sites, microgrids, and power distribution systems, including medium and low voltage systems, switch gear, and motor control centers. The role involves computer modeling and analysis of electrical systems, as well as the design of lighting systems, grounding, and lightning protection systems. Key tasks include designing schematic and wiring diagrams, preparing equipment and system specifications, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes.
The Principal Electrical Engineer is also responsible for report preparation, performing design computations, and reviewing technical work within the discipline. Additionally, the Principal Electrical Engineer coordinates technical efforts, manages project budgets and schedules, and ensures the timely development of engineering drawings and specifications. They are also tasked with performing and checking engineering calculations, sizing and selecting electrical equipment, and coordinating with vendors for necessary information and equipment.

Salary: $155,000 to $208,000 per year (Salary range for CO, IL, MN locations)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) Registration, or ability to obtain in 1 year.
- 10+ Years experience of relevant electrical design experience.
- Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, or similar electrical modeling software.
- Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate.
- Self‑motivated and adaptable to evolving client, project and industry needs.
- Design experience with military bases, central plants, and campus infrastructure.
- Design and layout of power plant site, microgrids, and power distribution with medium and low voltage systems, switch gear and motor control centers; computer modeling/analysis of electrical systems; convenience power, lighting systems, grounding, and lightning protection systems.
- Design of schematic and wiring diagrams; preparation of specifications for equipment and systems.
- Report preparation; determining code requirements; and performing and reviewing design computations.
- Coordinate technical efforts within discipline areas as necessary.
- Manage a design budget and schedule.
- Proficient developing engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform and check engineering calculations.
- Sizing, selecting, and specifying electrical equipment and coordinating information with vendors.
- Perform project field site visits.
- Perform other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
