Position: Electrical Designer - Power (Denver)

Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice seeks an experienced Electrical Designer to contribute to the design and construction of power generation facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage, as well as heavy industrial sites such as decarbonization, mining, and gas compression. The role offers a wide range of design and project execution experiences on both multi‑discipline and electrical‑only projects.

Responsibilities
  • Assist on phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, and preparation of construction documentation and electrical plans.
  • Design electrical projects including schematics, grid plan layouts, power systems, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site/facility design.
  • Develop drawings for production work; conduct problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non‑routine assignments.
  • Execute design assignments using prescribed methods, sequencing, sizing system components, and refining rough sketches.
  • Implement changes to designs, sketches, and redlines or mark‑ups on ongoing projects.
  • Analyze reports, drawings and tests to plan and design projects.
  • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget and schedule; perform tasks within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Compute volume calculations for conduit/grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams and relay panel schematics.
  • Organize and maintain revisions of project drawings and related information in a logical and well‑structured manner.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal form, coordinating with the client.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in drafting technology or related field and 7 years related experience, or
  • Associate degree and 8 years related experience, or
  • 9 years progressive detailing and design experience.
  • Advanced understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, and Excel.
  • Advanced ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Advanced knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
  • Advanced knowledge in the theory and practices of the assigned discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the discipline; capable of operating related discipline design software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others including project managers, engineers and designers in a multi‑discipline project team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and attention to detail.
Compensation

$ – $ yearly. The expected compensation range is displayed in with local/state regulations and is based on factors such as education, qualifications, work experience and location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year‑end incentive bonus program.
