Travel Modeling and Data Analytics Coordinator (Analyst VI) – Denver

Join the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) as a Travel Modeling and Data Analytics Coordinator (Analyst VI). This role involves developing and implementing long‑range program goals and providing technical expertise for travel modeling and traffic analyses.

Work Unit

The Mobility Section of the Office of Transportation Analytics develops mobility analysis processes from a multimodal perspective. It assembles, analyzes, and interprets motorized and non‑motorized traffic data to support long‑range plans, corridor plans, and investment decisions, and maintains the Statewide Travel Model.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate technical support and consultation on travel modeling and traffic analyses for large technical projects, including implementation of the statewide travel model and integration of big‑data sources.
  • Provide consultation on travel modeling, multimodal traffic data collection, analysis, and other mobility‑related activities.
  • Lead in identifying and providing guidance, recommendations, resources, and support needed for travel modeling and traffic analysis in the development of plans, policies, and projects.
  • Develop and review guidelines for the travel modeling unit to align with statewide planning processes, performance management goals, and CDOT big‑data integration initiatives.
  • Develop and implement long‑range program goals to support CDOT planning objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage contractors and deploy resources to meet changing conditions and priorities.
  • Manage large or complex projects, including new travel and traffic models, model upgrades, multimodal data integration, technology implementation, and similar efforts.
  • Track and provide oversight of project budgets and identify procurement issues before they arise.
  • Provide technical modeling guidance, with a focus on complex political projects, and make final determinations on the feasibility of using the statewide travel model.
  • Conduct modeling research, recommend model enhancements, and collaborate with stakeholders on model development and maintenance.
  • Assist with corridor or study upgrades and oversee consultants working on upgrades.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • Standard work hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday, with flexible scheduling possible.
  • Potential work‑from‑home 1‑3 days a week after training.
  • Periodic travel required across Metro Denver/Front Range.
  • Occasional overnight travel 1‑3 times a year throughout Colorado.
Minimum Qualifications

A total of at least nine (9) years of experience:

  • At least four (4) years in business management, civil engineering, computer science, data analytics, economics, GIS, mathematics, planning, or statistics.
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience directly with travel forecasting models, including two (2) years as a program or project manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success with duties listed above.
  • Years of state service experience related to these duties.
  • Strong ethical standards and integrity.
  • Expertise in travel modeling, traffic analysis, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in relational database management and geographic data sets.
  • Extensive knowledge of Transportation Modeling tools (Trans

    CAD, CUBE, EMME/3) and software (SQL, Oracle, MS Office, Google Apps, SAP).
  • Experience with traffic‑related research systems and crash data.
  • Excellent project management, communication, facilitation, and analytical skills.
  • Passion for safety and continuous learning.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite and willingness to learn other systems.
Education and Experience
  • Combination of education and experience equal to at least nine (9) years.
  • Education from an accredited U.S. college with coursework related to duties is considered.
