Summary
Meta is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join our Design, Engineering & Construction (DEC) team, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems that support our global data center infrastructure. This role encompasses the full spectrum of controls engineering from hardware selection and software development to system integration and documentation, supporting Meta’s mission to connect over 3 billion users worldwide through reliable, efficient infrastructure.
This individual will work on cutting‑edge control systems that manage critical data center operations including HVAC, electrical power management, and building automation systems. This position requires both technical depth in industrial automation and the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to deliver integrated solutions at hyperscale.
Design, develop, and implement control systems for data center mechanical, electrical, and building management systems
Program and configure PLCs using platforms such as Schneider Electric Modicon, Rockwell Allen‑Bradley, and Siemens systems
Develop SCADA applications using platforms including Aveva System Platform, Ignition, and other HMI/supervisory systems
Design control panel layouts and specify hardware components including I/O modules, communication interfaces, and safety systems
Select and specify instrumentation including sensors, transmitters, actuators, and control valves to meet system performance requirements
Configure communication networks using industrial protocols such as OPC‑UA, Modbus TCP/IP, MQTT, and Ethernet‑IP
Ensure proper integration between control systems and enterprise networks while maintaining security boundaries
Develop and maintain interface specifications between control systems and external systems
Create comprehensive technical documentation including P&IDs, control narratives, sequence of operations, and testing procedures
Develop and maintain control system standards and specifications
Document system architectures, communication protocols, and integration requirements
Create commissioning and startup procedures for control systems deployment
Maintain accurate as‑built documentation and configuration management records
Evaluate emerging control technologies and assess their applicability to data center operations
Stay current with industry trends and best practices in industrial automation and building controls
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Controls, Mechanical) or equivalent practical experience with 7 years in control systems design and implementation
Demonstrated expertise in PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text) and SCADA/HMI development using industrial platforms
Experience with industrial automation, critical facilities, or data center environments including instrumentation selection and control system integration
Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (OPC‑UA, Modbus TCP/IP, MQTT, Ethernet‑IP) and network configuration principles
Data driven problem‑solving abilities with concise documentation skills and ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams
10 years in data center, critical facilities, or mission‑critical infrastructure with knowledge of building automation systems and energy management
Experience with manufacturing environments, equipment deployment processes, commissioning activities, and large‑scale system rollouts across multiple facilities
Professional Engineering (PE) license, vendor certifications (Schneider, Rockwell, Siemens), industry certifications (ISA automation, building commissioning), or networking certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network )
Experience with cybersecurity frameworks for industrial control systems, DCIM platforms, and advanced control strategies (optimization algorithms, predictive control)
Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, ISA) including networking standards (IEEE 802.3, TIA/EIA‑568, ISO/IEC 11801) and experience with hyperscale infrastructure or…
