Burns & McDonnell’s Power Division focuses on the design and construction of power generation facilities—including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage—as well as heavy industrial projects such as decarbonization, mining, and gas compression. The division offers a variety of design, project execution, and construction experience.
Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our solar team in multiple U.S. locations. The engineer will create world‑class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on solar and other renewable energy projects. The role involves working throughout the design and construction process, adapting plans to meet budget constraints, design factors, industry standards, or client needs.
Responsibilities- Perform structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects.
- Design structural components to meet project requirements set by project managers.
- Apply strong knowledge of common structural engineering concepts, principles, codes, and procedures.
- Research and compile project‑related data as required by project managers.
- Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
- Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related ABET‑accredited program; or Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology with FE exam completion. A master’s degree in Structural Engineering may substitute for 1 year of experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of structural engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically, analytically, and demonstrate critical‑thinking skills.
- Proficiency in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and structural analysis programs such as RISA‑3D and AutoCAD.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, and organization.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required;
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Salary range: $ – $ per year. Total compensation includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year‑end incentive bonus program.
