Job DescriptionAECOM seeks an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to lead the traffic engineering team in Denver. The candidate will provide project management, task management, technical team leadership, and deliver services on projects ranging from small to large.
Job Responsibilities- Provide traffic engineering services in Colorado in collaboration with AECOM teams across roadway, structural, transit, planning, and architecture.
- Lead a growing team of mid‑level and junior engineers on standalone and integrated traffic projects.
- Mentor and guide engineers on day‑to‑day tasks.
- Oversee all aspects of traffic studies: data collection, microsimulation, model calibration, forecasting, and alternatives analysis.
- Present technical findings to project teams, clients, and the public.
- Document results in technical memoranda and reports.
- Perform quality control of other engineers’ work per AECOM and client processes.
- Coordinate workload projections for direct reports and collaborate with discipline leads statewide.
- Engage in business development activities, including identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and supporting marketing presentations.
- Assist direct reports with professional growth and project manager support in scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Propose efficient solutions to problems and modify standard procedures or methods.
- Work with leadership to grow the Denver traffic team and meet budget and schedule commitments.
• BA/BS + 10 years of experience (or equivalent education/experience).
Preferred Qualifications- 15+ years in traffic engineering.
- Experience in Colorado projects.
- Business development experience and proposal preparation.
- Professional Engineer license in Colorado (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Relationships with agencies like CDOT, RTD, DOTI, DEN, DRCOG, cities and counties.
- Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
- Proficiency with Synchro/Sim Traffic, VISSIM, HCS, model calibration, and validation.
- Safety analysis expertise (HSR Manual, signal warrants, pedestrian crossings, pavement marking).
- Experience with Micro Station and traditional travel demand models.
- Project management experience.
- Technical execution of traffic studies.
- Support highway, bridge and transit design teams for laneage, intersection, interchange layout and non‑motorized considerations.
- Work with Metropolitan Planning Organizations for projections.
- Mentorship of interns and junior staff.
- Proficient presentation skills.
- Expertise with HSM, MUTCD, FHWA Traffic Analysis Toolkit.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Professional Engineer license.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
The offered rate is based on education, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation range: $145,000 – $209,000 per year.
