The Opportunity

As a senior nuclear stress engineer on the Mechanical Piping Team, this professional will function as a technical expert or lead, guiding design execution and support for nuclear pressure piping projects.

  • Perform, verify, and direct piping stress analysis to ensure conformance to ASME Section III, ASME B31.1, and related ASME standards, along with client and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Conduct detailed stress analysis for metallic piping in conditions such as elevated temperature service, high‑load equipment, pulsating service, flow‑induced vibration, and transient loads.
  • Coordinate work between domestic and international offices, assigning tasks and collaborating with team members on complex projects.
  • Initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate details of the work.
  • Prepare purchase specifications and administer pipe support purchase order contracts with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Prepare and qualify pipe support designs satisfying all code and project requirements.
  • Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and project leadership interaction.
  • Expand knowledge in related disciplines and provide mentoring and training to junior engineers.
  • Travel to job sites for walk‑downs and hanger inspections for both existing and new‑build facilities.

The Mechanical Engineering Department is a global team that delivers high‑quality, on‑time design and services in power, gas, fuels & chemicals, water, data centers, mining, and more. The U.S.‑based group has a staff of 30 professionals located in several locations, primarily in Raleigh, NC, and the world headquarters in Overland Park, KS.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of experience relevant to nuclear pipe stress analysis and piping design.
  • Technical depth with ASME BPVC Section III‑1 NB (Class
    1), NCD (Class 2 &
    3), and NF (Supports), ASME NQA‑1, ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code, and related design guides.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5 (High Temperature Reactors).
  • Working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, II, and VIII.
  • Working knowledge of other design standards and specifications such as API, ASTM, and AWWA.
  • Working knowledge of AutoPIPE stress analysis software.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical and basic FEA principles.
  • Working knowledge of other disciplines, industry and technology trends, company quality program, construction practices, procurement and contract administration.
  • Experience in supervising large project teams for multiple projects.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience. Minimum of 11 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) per applicable laws. Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects where applicable.

Work Environment and Schedule
  • Typical office environment with prolonged computer use; also site visits may require physical tasks such as crouching, grasping, standing/weaving.
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after first 90 days based on manager discretion, performance and work assignments.
