This vacancy requires:

Job SummaryFacilitate the academic, social, and cultural enrichment of high school students by being a mentor and role model. Supervise participants primarily in the non-academic segments of the Upward Bound summer program.
This position is 24-hour residential from June 12, 2026 thru July 2, 2026. During this time, the position requires living in a college dorm, located in Des Moines, from Sunday evenings through Friday afternoons.
This position will assist with an out-of-state trip the week of July 13, 2026.
Essential Functions- Live with students in college dormitory during the residential component of the summer program
- Establish and maintain positive, respectful mentoring relationships with student participants and staff
- Maintain confidentiality
- Monitor adherence to and enforce policies and procedures with particular attention to rules governing student conduct
- Drive students to and from off-campus activities
- Mentor students by participating in educational/cultural activities
- Mentor students in the areas of academic and college preparation
- Conduct weekly meetings with other tutor counselors to implement activities, address and promote communication
- Assist students with the development of study skills
- Other duties as assigned
Required: Must have a minimum of one-year postsecondary experience with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must have experience tutoring or mentoring high school age students. Must demonstrate the potential for leadership. Must have a valid Iowa Driver’s license and be qualified to drive DMACC vehicles. Must certify as a mandatory reporter.
