Reporting directly to the Campus Principal, teachers are the heart of the organization and bring the mission to life for students. They are expected to be caring about the whole child, strong lesson planners, capable in classroom management, and collaborative with teammates and families. Candidates should have good communication skills, a commitment to making a difference for each child, and a growth mindset.

Schedule:
Teachers are paid on a year-round salary. Student contact days total 177, plus professional development and parent conference days for a 195-day work year. Teachers are expected to be on campus ready for students by 7:30 am and to stay until 4:00 pm on regular school days, and until 4:30 pm on Fridays with early release days for students (followed by PD or planning meetings).
Two weeks of professional development occur each summer before school starts.

Collaborate with grade-level peers to provide a rigorous and supportive curriculum. Use data to monitor student learning, determine next steps in lesson planning, and participate in data teams. Meet weekly with the team to co-plan lessons and units and collaborate with special education or interventionists as needed. Manage performance groups in language arts and math and lead instruction accordingly. If a homeroom, enter attendance and grades in the appropriate systems.
Provide guidance to Teaching Assistants as needed.
Set a positive daily tone, build strong relationships with students, and hold high expectations. Use proactive classroom systems and routines. Seek support from SIT, admin, and other staff when students struggle behaviorally or academically. At Highline, the student-first approach underpins all work.
