Starting Rate: $21.71/hour
Position OutcomesTo assist the department coordinator and librarians by providing a wide variety of support and organizational services in the library. To assist students and staff in obtaining requested information and/or directing them to an appropriate resource.
General ResponsibilitiesThis position involves close interaction with students and staff, with the primary emphasis on providing service to the educational programs. This individual works under the direction of certified staff. They are expected to interact with students in a friendly manner while helping to maintain order in the library. This employee works within established procedures and systems, exercising some independence in the performance of routine matters.
Qualifications- Possession of or ability to obtain Illinois State Board of Education Educator License with Stipulations
-Paraprofessional or other ISBE license that requires a college degree. - Knowledge of and experience with high school students’ needs and behavior problems.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and distinctly with students, staff, and outside agencies.
- Knowledge of changing technologies and has the confidence to troubleshoot related issues.
- Ability to be flexible when interpreting policies/procedures.
- Knowledge of computer operations and office procedures and skills.
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Commits to positive interactions with students and teachers.
- Works independently and takes initiative.
- Provides students and staff with access to necessary library resources by:
- Checking resources in and out using computerized circulation system and maintaining reserve lists;
- Maintaining and updating student and faculty registration in the database;
- Requesting and collecting payments for overdue or lost materials, and preparing related reports;
- Answering students’ requests for information;
- Assisting and instructing students and staff on the use of the photocopiers and other library instructional tools.
- Maintains an orderly and efficient library for students and staff by:
- Providing assistance at circulation desk;
- Shelving books and materials;
- Helping librarians with their research for classes and students;
- Completing reports as assigned (daily library schedules, statistics on library usage, etc.);
- Processing and withdrawing books and audio-visual materials (unpacking boxes, labeling/attaching security strips, stamping books, updating catalog records, etc.);
- Assisting with inventory;
- Ordering supplies;
- Opening and closing the library as necessary (turning on and shutting down computers and systems, unlocking and locking doors, etc.); and
- Completing support tasks as assigned (obtaining or distributing mail, mending books, developing displays, etc.).
- Provides access to materials through interlibrary loan by:
- Attending interlibrary loan meetings online and/or at the library system as the school’s representative;
- Handling all interlibrary loan requests for books and other non-periodical materials.
- Continues job performance enhancement by participating in professional growth activities.
- Exhibits a positive employee attitude and projects a professional image to students, staff, and others.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
