OverviewThe Associate Teacher works in-person with a Lead Teacher in a mixed-age classroom.
Responsibilities- Collaborating with the Lead Teacher to execute individual and small group lesson plans
- Collaborating with the Lead Teacher to support the social, emotional, and academic growth of each student
- Collaborating with the Lead Teacher and students to create individual units of study
- Integrating math, reading, writing, and other academic disciplines into individual student units
- Conducting research, collecting resources, and shopping for materials for individual and class unit work
- Supporting students one-on-one to plan and follow through with their weekly work schedule
- Supervising students as they are working on individual work
- Leading or assisting with reading/book groups
- Leading or assisting with writing workshops and other language arts workshops and lessons
- Creating and leading math lessons, including creating and grading assignments without direct supervision of the Lead Teacher. May be responsible for teaching small groups.
- Responding to student journals and reflections
- Editing and giving comments on written student work
- Gathering data on student progress and behavior to support student feedback and evaluation
- Working with the Lead Teacher on student evaluation forms
- Assisting the Lead Teacher with classroom management
- In some cases, being in charge of classroom management while the Lead Teacher focuses on other teaching responsibilities
- Taking over class as needed when the Lead Teacher is unavailable
- Supporting the Lead Teacher and EE Teachers with class management on day trips and one overnight trip in the spring (primary classes) and two overnights for the 3rd-8th classrooms (one in the fall and one in the spring)
- Supervising students at lunch and recess
- Attending parent or guardian/student/teacher conferences and other parent meetings
- Attending all required staff meetings and school-wide events, including but not limited to Expo, Family Information Nights, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
- Experience in teaching or a related field (summer camp, etc.)
- Lifelong learner, flexible thinker
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail
- Computer literacy and comfort using Google Suite
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness and ability to go on overnight field trips with students
- Willingness and ability to drive school vehicles while supervising students
- Participate thoughtfully and positively in all meetings and school-wide events
- Consider various perspectives when engaging in internal and external communications
- Work with the dean and instructional coach to share and solve problems
- Attend pre-service and other professional days and school-wide events
- Attend and complete mandatory trainings, such as those for child safety, first-aid, etc.
- Attend all staff meetings and the staff PD days
The Logan School workday is 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Attendance is required at all-staff meetings, held at least once per week, until 5:00 pm. There will be occasional evening and weekend commitments that require attendance.
CompensationThe salary (paid in equal 12-month installments) for this position is $40,000 - $45,000, depending on experience, for a 10-month work period. This will be prorated over 12 months for the school year, based on the start date. Lead Teacher and either Director of Primary/Lower Intermediate School or Associate Head, depending on the level where the opening occurs.
