GENERAL SUMMARY

The Medical Assisting/Phlebotomy Faculty Position is a full-time, 9-month position with the option to teach summer courses for additional compensation. Faculty may need to teach at a variety of times including days and evenings. This position works collaboratively with other medical assisting and phlebotomy faculty in a diverse, urban setting and reports directly to the Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy Chair. Effective interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills are essential.

CCD seeks faculty with strong teaching skills to engage its diverse students using an array of instructional methods and tools (e.g. project-based learning, flipped classroom, innovative use of technology, implementation of open educational resources, etc.). The college encourages creativity and supports faculty to implement cutting edge methods to improve student learning. CCD s rigorous learning environment fosters a community of life-long learners who demonstrate critical thinking, cultural competence, and ethical responsibility.

This is a faculty position with didactic, lab and internship teaching responsibilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES

The primary duty for this position is teaching medical assisting and phlebotomy courses. The number of courses per semester varies depending on the modality of the class and the number of credit hours. There will also be a service component to faculty duties.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other faculty to:

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned didactic, and clinical/administrative skill labs, and internship courses utilizing current educational methodologies
  • Work with the department Chair and instructors to maintain documentation and ensure compliance of clinical hours for students
  • Monitor program and course curriculum performance against targeted success outcomes and quality standards and prepare student learning assessments
  • Maintain professional licensure/certification
  • Provide subject matter expertise in support of new and revised curriculum proposals
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure program and course content is rigorous, responsive, and relevant to workforce needs, and aligns to defined student competencies
  • Review and monitor student and course feedback to ensure the student voice is represented
  • Participate in professional development
Service to the college
  • Participate in departmental meeting and required institutional meetings.
  • Participate in committees and special functions such as graduation ceremonies, and other program functions.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and staff to promote a positive work environment.
  • Represent the program, Health Sciences pathway, and the College in professional activities and community events.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and perform other tasks as assigned by the Chair, Dean, Provost, and President of CCD.
  • Participate in medical assisting/phlebotomy programs advisory board meetings.
  • Assist in building and sustaining strong relationships with businesses, industries, medical facilities, and other community organizations relevant to the program and its graduates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education (Minimum/Required)

An associate degree in medical assisting and a current industry recognized credential or certification in CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA or CMAA.
