About the DepartmentMSU Denver’s Department of Social Work prides itself on a talented faculty dedicated to supporting undergraduate and graduate students as social work scholars, practitioners, and leaders. Faculty emphasize culturally responsive practice, anti-oppressive curricula, and anti-racist programming. Priority will be given to applicants committed to serving underrepresented communities.
Our department offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in Social Work. Our mission is to prepare social workers to engage in ethical, justice-oriented and effective practice. We aim to educate students to work with diverse communities across micro, mezzo, and macro settings, including historically excluded populations.
Position SummaryThe Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for affiliate faculty teaching positions. We are seeking part-time Social Work Affiliate Instructors across the curriculum. All affiliate faculty will work with a Lead Faculty and participate in a content teaching team. When needed, affiliate faculty are expected to teach one to two courses per semester, with a maximum of three courses per semester.

MSU Denver faculty emphasize culturally responsive practice and anti-oppressive curriculum to educate students for effective clinical social work services with diverse communities in micro, mezzo, and macro settings.
ResponsibilitiesAn affiliate faculty member’s duties include, but are not limited to: teaching assigned classes (in-person or online), delivering course content, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading student work, providing timely feedback, addressing student questions, and providing academic support as appropriate for the teaching assignment; delivering instruction consistent with the course syllabus; adhering to department course coordination and Lead Faculty Model policies;
maintaining office hours; and complying with university policies for student evaluation of instruction and peer observation.
- Successful candidates teaching practice courses must have a Master’s in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program, plus a minimum of two years of relevant post-MSW experience.
- Successful candidates teaching field seminar courses must have a Master’s in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program, plus a minimum of five years of relevant post-MSW experience.
- Master’s of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited institution
- Five years of relevant post-MSW or related master’s degree experience
- PhD or ABD
- Doctoral-level coursework in one or more content areas
- Two years of teaching experience in relevant content areas
- Experience teaching in an online environment
- Experience with diverse, historically underrepresented and/or first-generation college students
Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester-by-semester basis. They are not eligible for University benefit coverage. All teaching assignments depend on budget and enrollment. Candidates may be required to teach in person on campus upon hire.
