Position: Program Coordinator for Summer Camp Team

About This Position

We are in search of a new temporary camp director for our Summer Science Camps Team at the Museum. This fun and engaging Science Camp Team works collaboratively to plan captivating curriculum for campers and support our amazing camp educators on the floor. We also have a lot of fun along the way diving into themes including space, health science, paleontology, and zoology!

Become a member of our 4‑person camp director team and help make science learning accessible, understandable, and meaningful!

Job Class: Part Time
Hiring Range: $27.00
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Seasonal Schedule
  • March 9 to June 1 – Pre‑Camp: PT 20–40 hours/week
  • June 1 to August 7 – Camp: FT 40 hours/week
  • August 7 to 21 – Post‑camp: PT 20–30 hours/week
Essential Duties
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all Museum guests while actively working to minimize risk for campers on site.
  • Contribute to and help to successfully implement daily and programmatic logistics.
  • Prepare summer program before and during the run, including supply management, execution of activities, and camp and director team check‑ins.
  • Provide guidance for and demonstrate age‑appropriate, audience‑driven techniques around camper engagement and behavior guidance.
  • Collaborate in the planning, preparation, and presentation of summer staff training.
  • Assist in continuous licensure compliance.
Minimum Qualifications /Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, education, recreation, outdoor education, or a subject in the human service field, or equivalent time and experience required.
  • 1 year (1,820 hours) experience with summer camp coordination for school‑age children (5‑12), day camps preferred.
  • Twenty‑one (21) years of age due to licensure requirements.
  • Ability to meet Program Lead requirements of Colorado’s Department of Early Childhood within 30 days of hire, including proof of verifiable education, training, or experience. To learn more about Program Lead qualifications, see the CDEC Regulations for School‑Aged Childcare.
Ideal Candidate Will Be/Have
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) with a $1 pay differential.
  • An understanding of creating access, equity, and inclusion for a diverse audience.
  • Experience with informal learning or science education, developing age‑appropriate curriculum, and teaching in formal or informal settings.
  • Ability to be flexible and think on their feet.
  • Passion for collaboration and value of teamwork.
  • Familiarity with best practices in MESH (mental, emotional, and social health) strategies.
  • Enthusiasm for working with and engaging children with patience and empathy.
  • Demonstrates skills in time and material management, dynamic facilitation methods/delivery, de‑escalation strategies, and problem solving.
  • Ability to meet Camp Director requirements of Colorado’s Department of Early Childhood within 30 days of hire, including proof of verifiable education, training, or experience.

* Must be able to provide a qualification letter from previous employer(s) stating you have met the experience requirement of a Camp Director OR provide proof of Early Childhood Professional Credential in Colorado Shines.
