About This Job
A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade‑level standard‑based curriculum to students, following school and district approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time.

What You’ll Do
- Provide counseling to encourage and support student achievement.
- Monitor, supervise, coordinate, and enforce rules of conduct and behavior for assigned students and reinforce positive behaviors in accordance with school and district policy.
- Observe, evaluate, report, and record students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Prepare educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
- Present subject matter using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting instructional style to meet diverse learning needs.
- Instruct students individually and in groups using lectures, technology, and discussions.
- Prepare, administer, assign, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using district software.
- Prepare attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
- Communicate with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve behavioral and academic issues and coordinate instructional efforts.
What You’ll Need
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
- Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Additional information regarding requirements can be found at the Colorado Department of Education website

- Live and work from a permanent home address in Colorado while employed with DPS.
