Position

Summary

The Accommodation Specialist will review supporting documentation and requests for accommodation(s) from students (i.e., undergraduate, graduate, and distance learners), rendering determinations on appropriate accommodations. They will orient, support, and provide guidance to students and those in their support system(s) about the disability accommodations process at the University, and the appropriate use of accommodations. In addition, the specialist will assist students in the accommodations process associated with field placements, practicums, and other non‑paid placement settings.
This is a full‑time position, 37.5 hours per week, and will report to the Assistant Director of Student Disability Services Program (SDS) and serve as an interactive member of the SDS accommodation review team, assisting with other departments’ responsibilities and tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time.

Essential Functions
  • Review and determine eligibility for accommodation from enrolled students, by working directly with students to gather additional information, provide information about the request process, and orient students to processes and procedures for approved accommodations.
  • Use a developmental approach to partner with students to understand the accommodations process, accommodations available, how to use the SDS software to notify faculty of their approved accommodation(s), and about other University resources and supports that are available and how to access them in support of their success.
  • Attend and collaborate in bi‑weekly accommodation review team meetings to achieve a considered review of difficult or complex requests for accommodation and/or work to identify efficiencies and/or solutions to accommodation‑related concerns.
  • Provide support for a caseload of students with a focus on students enrolled in graduate and professional programs as well as non‑traditional and non‑residential students.
  • Collaborate with academic departments to ensure the provision of appropriate resources for students participating in field placements, intern and externships, co‑ops, online programs, etc.
  • Attend and participate in department, Dean of Students (DOS) area, division, and University‑wide professional development opportunities.
