Assistant Professor of Machining Technologies, Provisional Faculty

The Community College of Denver (CCD) is seeking an Assistant Professor of Machining Technologies, Provisional Faculty to deliver instruction, support program development, and collaborate with the Manufacturing Chair to ensure course offerings meet industry expectations. This full‑time, 9‑month faculty position requires 15 credits split between teaching and discipline‑related responsibilities. Opportunities for additional teaching or service during the summer may be available with additional compensation, contingent upon departmental needs.

Primary

Duties Instructional Duties
  • Assist in developing class schedules.
  • Maintain accurate student records and comply with reporting requirements.
  • Ensure that master syllabi are used by all instructors.
  • Coordinate with other faculty on textbook selection and ordering.
  • Support the maintenance of program discipline pathways, ensuring alignment with industry needs.
  • Verify catalog content accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the program advisor and pathways coordinator to advise students in career pathways.
  • Utilize retention strategies to maximize student success.
  • Provide a safe and secure learning environment.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining the program advisory committee.
  • Support adjunct recruitment and hiring; interview and recommend adjunct instructors and full‑time faculty.
  • Manage, mentor, and monitor adjunct instructors in the program.
  • Facilitate faculty adherence to CCD’s grading policies.
  • Collaborate with Chair and deans to facilitate articulation and transfer agreements.
  • Participate in targeted professional development activities, certifications, and committees.
  • Maintain and enhance professional expertise through networking and partnership development.
  • Make informed, fair, and effective decisions based on a thorough understanding of situations.
  • Promote work quality, continuous improvement, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate shop activities, including work‑study assignments, low‑volume production, community requests, machine maintenance, and related tasks.
  • Effectively prepare and teach assigned classes at scheduled times and locations.
  • Maintain posted office hours.
  • Conduct timely assessments of student work and achievement.
  • Respect others and create opportunities for inclusion and valuing differences.
  • Produce learning content as needed.
Service to the College

Service includes activities that fulfill the college’s mission and goals outside the classroom, such as curriculum coordination and development, assessment of student learning, administrative assignments, and committee work.

Minimum Qualifications Education (Minimum/Required)

Industry training or certificate related to machining or manufacturing.

Experience (Minimum/Required)
  • Three (3) years of direct industry experience in at least two of the following categories (not mutually exclusive):
    • Manual Machining (mills and/or lathes)
    • Blueprint reading
    • CNC set up
    • CNC programming
    • Quality assurance
    • Lean/Six Sigma process improvement
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (Minimum/Required)
  • Knowledge of industry standard techniques, machines, and terminology.
  • Knowledge of general college processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill with manual lathe and manual mill.
  • Skill in CNC lathe or CNC mills.
  • Ability to design in CAD/CAM software such as Master

    CAM, Solidworks, or Fusion 360.
  • Ability to manage teaching and program management responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications Education (Preferred)

AAS Degree or higher in Machining, Manufacturing, or Engineering subject areas.

Experience (Preferred)
  • One (1) year of teaching or training experience.
