Art Appreciation, History and Theory Affiliate Instructor

Position Summary
Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Department of Art invites applications for part‑time affiliate faculty teaching positions in Art Appreciation, History, and Theory. Candidates will teach one to three classes in person, online, or a hybrid format, and will be expected to prepare materials, grade work, provide feedback, and support student learning in accordance with departmental policies and university-wide standards.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses in art appreciation, art history, or art theory and criticism.
  • Develop and deliver course content, prepare lesson plans, and design assessments.
  • Grade student work and provide timely, robust feedback.
  • Respond to student questions and provide academic support in person or online.
  • Adhere to university, college, and department policies, including student evaluation of instruction and peer observation.
Required Qualifications

• MA in Art History or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Art History.
  • Experience teaching a diverse urban student population, including students of color, LGBTQIA students, low‑income students, first‑generation and non‑traditional students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, and English language learners.
Terms of Employment

Affiliate faculty are part‑time, at‑will employees hired per credit hour for specific courses on a semester‑by‑semester basis. Benefit coverage is not provided. Qualified candidates will be expected to teach in‑person on campus upon hire.

Salary

Pay is based on the number of credit hours assigned, at a rate determined by university policy.
