In this position you will report to the Denver Wastewater Building (2000 W. 3rd) each morning, and then work at various locations across the City. Typical working hours are 6:30-3:00pm

Wastewater Management oversees all aspects of wastewater functions, including the construction, operation, maintenance of the City’s sanitary and storm systems, and responding to customer inquiries regarding sewage and storm drainage service charges. As a Utility Worker on the Construction team, you will assist with general labor, safety, and related work tasks on a crew with Equipment Operators. Specificallyas a Utility Worker II you will
- Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects including new and existing sanitary and storm structures
- Shoveling/raking of dirt and rock, and all general cleanup of jobsites.
- Repair inside and outside sanitary and storm manholes and storm inlets.
- Mix cement for various types of work which require breaking out old concrete and installing new concrete. Assisting in raking asphalt when re-patching roads after repairs are complete.
- Operate light weight equipment powered by small engines for maintenance and minor construction projects, such as stand on skidsters, normal skidsters, and loaders
- Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirement
- Participates in the snow removal
- Previous experience in construction/carpentry/ pipe fitting/ or storm/sanitary industry.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
- Knowledge of operating equipment and the use of small to medium hand tools.
- Willingness to work in inclement weather, road environments, dust, fumes, etc.
- Available for overtime opportunities and/or weekends
- Desire to follow a career path and promote to other positions within the department, such as Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, etc. (We provide on the job training!)
Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English:
- Converse with the general public
- Understand highway traffic signs and signals
- Respond to official inquiries
- Make entries on reports and records
