Position: FOREMAN- Commercial Construction (Drywall, Drywall Finish)
The Foreman is responsible for coordinating operations and overseeing crew workers at our numerous construction sites. As the liaison between crew workers and superintendents, the Foreman will be the key person in charge of overseeing the completion of the project with a keen awareness of material expenses, permits, and employee safety.
The ideal Foreman will have a solid background in the field, strong leadership skills, the ability to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. The Foreman must always be well-organized and strongly focused on safety.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Safety
A Foreman sets the standard by being an example, wearing their PPE, and promoting a safe work environment. Foremen are responsible and accountable for the safety of the crew under his/her direction. Looking out for the Safety of your team not only builds trust and keeps people safe but helps build a sense of teamwork.
This includes:
Knowing, understanding, and following company and OSHA regulations.Facilitates mandatory safety toolbox meetings with the crew.Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments.Maintaining, reviewing, and submitting a Daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).Weekly Site Safety Audits.The ability to understand and fill out accident/incident paperwork.Injury Accident Reports.Safety near Miss Reports.Ensure equipment is inspected daily.Leadership and Supervision
The Foreman coordinates the crew and must understand consistently apply the Company’s policies. The Foreman is required to be involved and supportive of any day-to-day disciplinary decisions.
This includes:
Using daily huddles to communicate the job expectations to the crew.Knowing his/her crew, their skill levels and using that knowledge to assign the appropriate people to each task.Recognizing, addressing, and resolving issues/problems among/between crew members.Identifying, and repairing quality issues and coaching crew to minimize these issues.Ensuring crew compliance with project policies and procedures.Listening to his/her crew to meet the needs of the project and encourage communication.Assist the Superintendent and Project Manager in looking ahead for material and labor planning by using budgets and schedules to help keep jobsites efficient.Demonstrated ability to understand scope of projects, schedules, material and resource needs and effectively communicate with Superintendent and/or Project Manager when there are issues that might impact the project results (i.e., manpower shortage, missing equipment/materials, etc).Planning and Scheduling
The Foreman is accountable for following project plans and schedules and ensuring that crews under his/her direction perform daily and weekly to meet production goals.
This includes:
Translating general work requirements into prioritized work plan for the crew.Listening to the crew to overcome challenges and ensure they have what they need to meet the job expectations.Using install rates to keep from overmanning project and ensure equipment/material are ordered in a timely fashion.Periodically reassess daily goals/schedules/resources to meet forecasted production.Employee Relations
The Foreman must champion an inclusive, respectful employee relations culture while being accountable for the adherence to policies and procedures by the crew.
This includes:
Promoting, supporting, and facilitating teamwork and harmony between all crew members by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all crew members.Recognize and praise in a team environment when a crew member goes above and beyond.Seek crew members’ opinions and use their ideas. Give them credit and tell others whose idea it was.Quality ControlThe Foreman is accountable for ensuring that the completed work meets quality standards.
This includes:
Onsite assessment prior to commencing work to ensure that job is ready, and addressing any concerns.Overseeing the execution of the work, including quality and production, ensuring that the crew works to job specifications and follows the plan.Clearly communicating expectations and measurements to…
