The Construction Manager plans, schedules, coordinates and/or supervises field construction inspection activities on assigned road construction projects. The role requires maintaining positive working relationships with project engineers, contractors, subconsultants, clients, the traveling public and CDOT staff. The position entails adhering to quality assurance and safety standards, ensuring budgets are met, and maintaining accurate progress reports in accordance with project requirements. The role includes inspection of construction activity to ensure quality and compliance with project plans, contracts, specifications, and special provisions.
Responsibilities- Serve as a construction project manager (owner’s representative) for transportation projects by managing and overseeing construction of roads, highways, and bridges to assure quality and safety.
- Review, inspect, test and/or measure the work of contractors and consultants to ensure contract compliance.
- Recommend to the owner approval and payment for acceptable and completed work, or rejection of non-conforming work.
- Maintain accurate daily records of construction site activities and produce required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule and budget status.
- Make or recommend project-related decisions based on assessment of construction performance and progress relative to contract requirements.
- Track expenditures for construction projects and discuss budget concerns with the Senior Transportation Manager.
- Analyze construction schedules using scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent.
- Prepare documentation to demonstrate compliance with applicable federal and state procedures and regulations for design criteria on federal, federal aid and/or state funded projects; coordinate design decisions, variances, contract modifications or change orders.
- Communicate project-related details and concerns to the client in a timely manner.
- Calculate and estimate quantities and costs of materials required for each project phase.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience including the management of transportation construction projects.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy and detail.
- Ability to manage a staff of professionals and direct their efficient utilization on projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Obtain and maintain required certifications for the position.
- Must meet internal requirements for operation of company vehicles and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Willingness and ability to travel to job sites, sometimes for extended periods; project sites may be located throughout Colorado or in the western U.S.
- Working knowledge of general design principles, safety and labor laws, quality control and quality assurance principles.
- Previous project management and/or inspection experience on DOT or FHWA road construction projects.
- Current Professional Engineer license.
- Construction materials testing experience.
- Work locations include road construction sites and field offices with exposure to all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work extended hours, nights, and weekends if necessary to meet client requirements or project deadlines.
- Exposure to loud noise levels (hearing protection provided).
- Must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Overnight travel may be required.

Construction Manager I: $40 to $50 per hour;
Construction Manager II: $45 to $55 per hour;
Construction Manager III: $55 to $65 per hour.
