Summary

The Senior Consultant will be responsible for providing advanced consulting support to Matrix’s Built Environment Solutions (BES) business unit. Consulting support is typically related directly or indirectly to the Department of War or other federal agencies. It may include developing study methodologies, data collection and analyses, planning and programming facility and infrastructure requirements, researching and writing unique reports, and other tasks as assigned.

The ideal candidate is a self‑directed leader who can translate complex problems into executable work plans, mentor team members, communicate effectively with technical and executive audiences, and help identify follow‑on opportunities while modeling the Matrix First mindset.

Essential Functions
  • Lead project delivery: develop work plans, scopes, schedules, and budgets; manage risks, changes, and internal controls.
  • Serve as a primary day‑to‑day point of contact for client counterparts; build trust and manage expectations through proactive communication.
  • Plan and facilitate virtual and in‑person stakeholder engagements (workshops, charrettes, interviews, working groups) to shape objectives and capture requirements.
  • Direct and/or perform analysis and documentation that supports BES offerings, including facilities and infrastructure planning, asset management, space utilization, and process improvement.
  • Integrate multiple technical domains into coherent, client‑ready products; ensure methods and assumptions are transparent, traceable, and defensible.
  • Prepare and review deliverables such as technical memoranda, executive briefings, implementation plans, dashboards/exhibits, and reports.
  • Coordinate and lead multi‑disciplinary teams (internal staff and subconsultants); assign tasks, set priorities, and maintain momentum to hit deadlines.
  • Track financial performance (budget, burn, invoicing, realization) and optimize staffing to balance delivery excellence with profitability and utilization.
  • Identify issues affecting scope, schedule, or client satisfaction early; recommend options and elevate appropriately to leadership when appropriate.
  • Contribute to business development: support capture planning, write proposal content, develop fee estimates, and help position follow‑on work with existing clients.
  • Model Matrix First by collaborating across teams, mentoring others, and representing Matrix professionally in client and community settings.
Competencies
  • Strong consulting and project management fundamentals (scope, schedule, budget, risk, QA/QC, and client satisfaction).
  • Ability to translate complex facility and infrastructure challenges into clear tasks, deliverables, and recommendations.
  • Technical credibility across BES service areas (requirement development, asset management and strategies, space use and planning, process improvement) and ability to integrate disciplines.
  • Executive‑ready communication: clear writing, confident briefing, and the ability to explain trade‑offs and limitations to non‑technical audiences.
  • Facilitation skills for workshops and stakeholder engagements; able to build alignment across diverse groups.
  • Sound judgment and independence; comfortable working under broad guidance and making day‑to‑day decisions within delegated authority.
  • Leadership and mentoring: develops others through coaching, feedback, and setting clear expectations.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail; produces high‑quality, defensible work products on deadline.
  • Financial acumen for project performance and staffing decisions; understands how delivery choices affect profitability and risk.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with data visualization and collaboration tools (e.g., Power BI/Tableau, Teams, SharePoint) is a plus.
  • Professionalism and integrity; represents Matrix well with clients, partners, and the community.
  • Commitment to Matrix First culture—collaboration, accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
