Staff Accountant
Our client is a rapidly growing national leader in the real estate industry, and they are adding an experienced Staff Accountant, particularly someone who has worked across multiple entities or companies. This role requires expertise in accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), bank and GL account reconciliations, journal entries, and processing multi-state payroll. The ideal candidate understands the unique accounting needs of national operations, including property management, development, and/or investment activities, and can manage the complexities that come with multi-property or multi-entity financial management.
Key Responsibilities of Staff Accountant:
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process vendor invoices, payments, and contractor reimbursements related to property management, development, or leasing activities
- Manage tenant billings, rent collections, and cash applications
- Maintain accurate A/P and A/R aging schedules and resolve discrepancies across multiple properties or entities
- General Accounting & Reconciliations:
- Prepare and post journal entries related to real estate transactions, including accruals, intercompany transactions, and asset/depreciation entries
- Perform bank and account reconciliations for multiple property or entity accounts
- Assist with month-end and year-end closings, ensuring compliance with real estate accounting standards
- Payroll Processing:
- Administer multi-state payroll for real estate staff, including corporate and property-level employees
- Reconcile payroll accounts, track labor allocations, and coordinate with HR or third-party payroll providers
- Prepare payroll tax filings and support payroll-related audits
Qualifications of Staff Accountant:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 3–5 years of accounting or payroll experience, preferably with multiple locations or entities (property management, real estate investment, or development)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate-specific accounting practices
- Proficiency in A/P, A/R, journal entries, reconciliations, and multi-state payroll
- Experience with real estate accounting software (such as Yardi, MRI, Real Page) and strong Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage deadlines in a multi-entity, fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications for Staff Accountant:
- Familiarity with lease accounting, CAM reconciliations, or real estate tax processes
- Experience supporting audits, lender compliance, or investor reporting
- Background working in multi-entity, multi-state real estate portfolios
