Staff Accountant​/Cost Accountant

Asphalt Specialties Company, Inc. is a family-owned corporation established in 1991, specializing in heavy highway contracting. With over 30 years of experience, we provide quality construction services throughout the Front Range of Colorado, including earthwork, grading, patching, paving, and a full range of building materials.

SUMMARY

The Staff/Cost Accountant is responsible for operations accounting related activities with the primary objective of producing timely, accurate, reliable, and relevant financial information effectively and efficiently. They will perform advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimated costs to actual costs and prepare a variety of reports, while reporting accurate revenue recognition

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll.
• Assist with monthly accounting close and financial reporting.
• Collaborate with project teams with respect to project accounting and material issues: billings, subcontracts, collections, change orders, back charges, close-outs, labor and material costs, and profit/loss analysis.
• Review and generate all required lien waivers and tax certificates.
• Support CFO in the finance and accounting activities of the Company.
• Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Assist in the coordination of internal and external audits.
• Confidence and understanding of payroll procedures, to provide support to the payroll function.
• Fixed Asset Knowledge - Equipment Licensing.
• Lead contract billing operations, including pay application generation and distribution, lien waivers, support documentation, and job costing.
• Set up vendors and prepare 1099’s.
• Performs month-end and year-end closings with assistance.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

BA/BS in Accounting or Finance preferred.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in Construction accounting preferred, or work experience.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel formulas and formatting.
Proficient Accounting software;
Viewpoint would be a plus.
Ability to create, file and manage electronic documents.

Other Compensation: this position is eligible for a bonus

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
