POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant performs a variety of accounting activities in accordance with GAAP. Executes monthly close; identifies process improvements to ensure more efficient and effective performance of accounting functions. This role may participate in consolidation and year end reporting activities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform general accounting activities in accordance with GAAP: calculate, prepare andmonth-end closing entries; maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts; perform and account analysis; coordinate inventory cycle counts and inventory adjustments ; and other activities as assigned
• Participate in reporting and balance sheet reviews
• Prepare audit work papers
• Participate in development and implementation of new processes, procedures, policies and controls

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• 1-2+ years experience, public accounting preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively converse with all levels of the company, customers, and business associates
• Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel
• Professional integrity and accountability
• Work in fast-paced, collaborative environment

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

• None

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• One year accounting experience with general ledger and preparing journal entries
• Previous experience in Rail Transportation, Supply Chain Logistics, Manufacturing and/or Oil and Gas industries
• MBA or equivalent
• Net Suite experience or other large ERP software
• Public Accounting experience

• CPA
