Description
The Driver/Equipment Operator II performs specialized skilled work in the operation of one or more types of motorized heavy equipment used in the maintenance and construction of roads and bridges. Duties include operating compactors, front‑end loaders, farm tractors, backhoes, heavy dump trucks, tandem trucks, and tractor trailers to perform patching, installing culverts, cutting brush, hauling dirt, mowing roadsides, and repairing or replacing road signs.
Examplesof Duties
- Perform traffic control such as flagging, setting barricades and cones, and directing traffic at construction sites.
- Load all equipment and tools necessary for off‑site jobs.
- Drive diesel and non‑diesel trucks to haul gravel, dirt, and asphalt.
- Operate power equipment such as mowers, tractors, and chain saws to cut brush and trees at roadsides.
- Remove trash and debris from county right of way and haul refuse to specified locations.
- Attach road signs to posts using hand and power tools, dig holes, and set signs with cement.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
- Inspect equipment for proper function, wash equipment, and check for damage before and after use.
- Operate vehicles and equipment required to perform flood control duties as needed.
- Fuel equipment and maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Train other employees in the use of equipment as time and workload permit.
- High School diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License issued by the State of Texas.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License with “N” endorsement preferred.
- Driver’s License with “N” endorsement issued by the State of Texas required within 3 months of employment.
- Ability to perform other related duties as required.
