Coordinates and performs advanced skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Serves as a lead worker and trains other technicians. Work includes coordinating and maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments;
however, all unusual issues are referred to a supervisor.
- Assists in scheduling and assigning work.
- Serves as a lead worker by advising, training, and instructing employees in shop policies and procedures; acting as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage.
- Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions.
- Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.
- Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures.
Experience
: 5 years in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
Licenses and Certifications
:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must have a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or have obtained a Class “A” CDL , within 120 calendar days from date of employment.

- This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

- Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
- Required to work weekends and holidays.
- Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
- Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
