Corrections Facility Technician I – Law Enforcement Facility – Sheriff
The Corrections Facility Technician I performs semi‑skilled to skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the Sheriff’s Department, Detention Center, and jail facilities. The role involves mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance, security systems, and a wide range of building trade tasks.
Responsibilities- Maintain and repair mechanical and technical security systems, including security locks, doors, surveillance systems, fire alarms, smoke‑exhaust systems, and life‑safety equipment.
- Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs and schedules for correctional facilities and technical systems.
- Help develop plans for facility improvements and maintenance tasks, including estimating repair and improvement costs.
- Perform carpentry and renovation work on floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, and screens.
- Build or repair partitions, cabinets, tables, shelves, and bookcases.
- Conduct heating and air‑conditioning maintenance, checking thermostats, couplers, fuses, belts, and motors; assist in major HVAC repair projects.
- Execute skilled plumbing tasks such as changing faucet washers, stems, and seals; install and repair water and sanitary fixtures; replace toilet components like tank bulbs and overflow tubes.
- Sand, paint, and stain walls, woodwork, cabinets, tables, and other wooden surfaces.
- Hang and finish sheetrock, paneling, wallpaper, tiles, and moldings.
- Install and repair carpeting, glass panes, suspended ceiling grids, and tiles.
- Supervise activities of inmate trustees on work projects, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
- Review and inspect contracted work for quality and regulatory compliance.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Jailer within one (1) year of employment.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain a Texas state driver’s license within 90 days.
- Proficiency in building trades: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and painting.
