Clinic Nurse ResponsibilitiesThe Clinic Nurse performs advanced vocational nursing work, delivering the nursing care necessary to meet the health care needs of individuals who live at the SSLC. Responsible for the organization and overall daily functioning of the clinic.
- Supervises staff who work in the clinic as assigned.
- Makes clinical appointments and ensures the individual's appointment information is processed in a timely manner.
- Oversees the preparation and maintenance of patient records and reports in the clinic.
- Reviews documentation prepared by other clinic staff for completeness, within the scope of expertise.
- Performs focused assessments and care interventions, such as health screenings, and collects specimens for lab work.
- Evaluates and documents healthcare needs and/or issues and reports them to the appropriate person(s).
- Works directly with the Primary Care Provider (PCP) such as physicians, consultants, psychiatrists, and/or dentists.
- Communicates with direct care staff, physicians/PCP, administration, and other nursing staff to ensure optimal care.
- Identifies trends and concerns and notifies the supervisor or assigned Registered Nurse Case Manager (RNCM).
- Serves as a direct care/floor nurse as needed, performing basic and advanced nursing tasks.
- Provides instructions to direct support professionals and other staff.
- Performs technical nursing procedures per facility and state regulations.
- Offers direction and assists with on-the-job training to others such as newly hired LVNs.
- Monitors work of LVNs and assigns work as needed.
- Evaluates nursing intervention outcomes and provides input to other members of the healthcare team.
- Assists Registered Nurses (RNs) with implementation of protocols, procedures and programs to improve the health and safety of staff and residents.
- Works under limited supervision of an RN or other appropriate supervisor, with considerable latitude for initiative.
This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights and/or weekends.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)- Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule; may work rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime per agency leave policy.
- May serve in on-call status on a rotating schedule as required.
- Leads the work in the clinic, ensuring organization and schedule adherence.
- Supervises staff such as the scheduler and ensures timely processing of appointments.
- Ensures clinic area is clean and supplies are stocked; orders supplies as needed.
- Oversees preparation and maintenance of patient records and reports.
- Assists PCP and other clinic staff with examinations, treatments, monitoring vitals, weight, diet, feeding, and post-treatment observations.
- Draws blood samples and collects laboratory specimens as required.
- Accurately reports assessment findings, treatments and procedures to guide treatment decisions.
- Documents nursing actions, interventions and communications in the electronic health record or paper chart.
