Supervisor, HVAC Operations
Oversees the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across the university campus. This role is responsible for supervising a team of technicians, ensuring optimal indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and reliability of mechanical systems in support of the university's mission. The HVAC Supervisor plays a key role in planning preventative maintenance, coordinating system upgrades, responding to work orders, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Work is performed under general supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

Assistant Director, Central Plant and Utilities
Supervises: HVAC and Preventive Maintenance (PM) Technicians
Essential Duties – May include, but not limited to the following:- Supervise, schedule, and lead HVAC and PM Technicians, ensuring high-quality work and efficient use of resources.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations for team members.
- Ensure optimal indoor environmental quality, temperature, and humidity levels in classrooms, labs, residence halls, and other campus facilities.
- Oversee and coordinate daily work order assignments, preventive maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, repairs and emergency responses for all HVAC-related issues across the campus.
- Implement and manage preventive and predictive maintenance (PM) programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Monitor system performance and recommend adjustments, retrofits, or replacements as needed.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and equipment documentation.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes, standards, and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing proper procedures, conducting regular safety meetings, and providing training on equipment operation and safety practices.
- Initiate requisition for materials and equipment.
- On-Call and emergency management protocols are required.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Associate's degree or High School diploma, or equivalent in HVAC technology, mechanical systems, or a related field (bachelor's degree preferred).
ExperienceMinimum of 6 years of progressively responsible HVAC experience, including 2-3 years in a supervisory or lead role. Experience in a campus, institutional, or large commercial facility environment preferred.
RequirementEPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required. State HVAC license (if applicable). Building Management System (BMS) or Direct Digital Control (DDC) experience strongly preferred.
Valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas and a safe driving record such as required to attain Driver's Authorization through the university.
Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.
