Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) as a Nurse III - HCSSA
. This role focuses on protecting residents’ health and safety by conducting on-site inspections and investigations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation in Texas long‑term care settings (home health and hospice agencies). Travel up to 80% of the time is required, including statewide, overnight, and weekend travel. The position is a full‑time, exempt day shift.
Salary Range: $7,474.23 – $8,886.16 per month (Daily Value $89,690.71).

- Conduct on‑site licensure inspections, complaint and incident investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys.
- Investigate alleged abuse, neglect, and exploitation in long‑term care facilities.
- Communicate findings clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare detailed inspection/survey reports, including deficiency narratives and regulatory determinations.
- Re‑visit agencies to verify correction of prior violations.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others.
- Possibly supervise team members during inspections.
- Testify at hearings or court proceedings when required.
- Provide on‑call assistance during emergencies such as weather events, or high‑priority situations.
- Under program manager direction, conduct licensure inspections, complaint/incident investigations, and surveys to determine compliance.
- Communicate accurately and effectively with facility staff and other stakeholders.
- Conduct exit conferences with agency staff regarding findings.
- Complete inspection or survey reports detailing deficiencies and supporting narratives.
- Re‑visit partners to verify compliance and correct violations.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others.
- Possibly supervise work of team members and provide expertise during inspections.
- Be available to testify at hearings or in court proceedings.
- Assist with non‑skilled care in emergency licensure actions when needed.
- Be available for on‑call duties during emergencies.
- Understanding of risks for at‑risk populations in various care environments.
- Interpersonal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Quality assurance, program review, certification, survey, or investigation skills.
- Providing guidance, policy clarifications, and information to others.
- Skill in preparing detailed written reports.
- Multitasking and prioritizing numerous activities.
- Data collection, analysis, interpretation, and problem solving.
- Independent work ability and professional judgment.
- Proficiency with computer word‑processing and related software.
- Organizational and punctual task management.
• Registered Nurse license in the State of Texas or a state recognizing reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
• Completion of all required federal/state training for Home and Community Support Services Agencies and Hospice Orientation.
- Experience as an autonomous healthcare provider (home health, hospice, hospital, or field nurse). Preferably two years as a registered nurse.
- Minimum one year of experience in institutional, home health, hospice, or long‑term care settings.
• 80% travel requirement, including statewide, overnight, and weekend travel.
• Must have reliable transportation.
