Part‑time Trauma Registrar
Part‑time (29 hours week) Trauma Registrar in the newly developed Trauma Program at Texas Health Resources, Denton, Texas.
Work LocationTexas Health Denton, 3000 N I‑35 Denton, Texas 76201
Working HoursPart‑time, days – 29 hours per week
Department Highlights- Opportunity to work closely with the Trauma Program Manager.
- Available training: AAAM Injury Coding, Trauma Registry Certification, ICD‑10 Course certificates.
- HS diploma or equivalent (required)
- Associate’s degree in Health Information or related field (preferred)
- ATC or equivalent Trauma Registrar Course (preferred)
- AAAM injury coding course (preferred)
- 1 year experience with chart auditing, quality improvement, data entry (required)
- 1 year medical records experience (preferred)
- Trauma Registrar Certification upon hire (preferred)
- Experience with CAISS, coding certificate, or RHIT (preferred)
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and statistics
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with computers; familiarity with Care Connect, Excel, and Collector
- Ability to use external resources to obtain/analyze trauma‑related data
- Provide quality, safe patient care and exceptional customer service.
- Create and maintain a collaborative work environment.
- Champion actions to reduce/eliminate patient risks.
- Incorporate customer needs and expectations into daily operations.
- Collaborate with staff, physicians, patients, family and external customers to determine expectations.
- Complete daily analysis of medical records for trauma patients to determine registry reporting eligibility.
- Maintain registry, and orderly records of data to be coded and abstracted.
- Address case discovery, patient rounds and performance improvement processes daily.
- Communicate current regulatory requirements and monitor compliance.
- Perform queries for reports from the trauma registry database.
- Analyze data to fulfill administrative and medical staff requests.
- Download essential data to the Texas Department of Health Bureau of Epidemiology on a monthly basis and the National Trauma Data Bank annually.
- Collect patient care data, identify and report significant findings to the Trauma Program Manager/Coordinator and Trauma Medical Director.
- Monitor trauma patient records for quality‑improvement indicators.
- Provide quality, patient‑centered care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient and equitable.
- Establish collegial relationships with physicians and support effective communication among physicians, staff and other departments.
- Promote a professional image in demeanor, appearance, attitude and behaviors.
- Integrate team‑building strategies and principles of group process in interactions.
- Provide safe patient care at affordable costs delivered by compassionate caregivers.
- Identify ineffective and costly processes and take action to improve them.
- Remain flexible with scheduling to help meet departmental/patient needs.
- Assume responsibility for and participate in projects as needed.
- Coordinate care across a broader continuum, including injury prevention, pre‑hospital, acute, emergent and rehabilitation.
- Integrate ACS guidelines for trauma patient care into the continuum.
- Coordinate efforts in the progressive growth of the trauma system.
- Contribute to unit‑based programs and research strategies.
