Overview
THIS POSITION MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME ONCE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.
Responsibilities- Assess juvenile probationers, meet with probationers to ensure adherence to terms of probation, and maintain records of probationers’ activities and status.
- Provide limited counseling, refer clients to probation assistance programs, and confere with law enforcement and court personnel in matters pertaining to violation of probation by clients.
- Develop supervision and treatment plans for probationers, supervise juveniles in detention facilities to ensure their safety and welfare, and transport juveniles between jails, medical institutions, schools, etc.
- Maintain individual case files, record all contacts, prepare reports of clients’ status, and enter adjudication information into the computer.
- Testify in court as to probationers’ status and adherence to reporting schedules and other terms of probation.
- Call detainees’ family members if necessary, advise detainees of rules and regulations, and observe detainees’ demeanor to determine mental state and possible need for treatment and/or closer observation.
- Document all contacts with juveniles and others involved in their case, along with all activities involved, and answer phone calls, check‑ins, and e‑mails; prepare correspondence as necessary.
- Complete sex offender risk assessments for sex offenders and send copies of sex offender registration and orders to proper law enforcement agency.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- A bachelor's degree AND one year of experience in a social service, community, corrections or juvenile agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons.
- OR A bachelor's degree AND one year of graduate study in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology, sociology, or other field of instruction approved by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
- Eligible for certification within six (6) months as a Juvenile Probation Officer by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
- Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days.
- Meet the requirements in Title 37, Chapters 343 & 344 of the Texas Administrative Code including but not limited to being of good moral character and at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to pass a State Criminal History background check.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
