Department SummaryInternational Affairs is a guide and champion for campus internationalization at the University of North Texas. It is our mission to support the university's global endeavors and international initiatives. We support international teaching and research, and provide expertise and assistance to faculty, staff, students, and administrators. The Main Office provides administrative support and guidance to all units within International Affairs.
Position OverviewThis position assists the Vice Provost for International Affairs and each of the constituent units with administrative and fiscal management of our large/complex unit. The Sr. Budget Officer collaborates with the leadership of International Affairs to produce data-driven financial analysis and strategy recommendations for the most efficient use of International Affairs resources. The budget officer will prepare a variety of forms for purchasing, travel, reimbursements, and personnel/payroll.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree with coursework in accounting, finance or business administration and three years of experience in financial administration or budget management; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of (or ability to rapidly assimilate and retain) University fiscal and academic policy, procedure and practices.
- Marked ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of electronic information systems and accounting systems.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions within the framework of broad goals and objectives.
- Ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively.
- Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
- Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed and work supervised.
- Work experience involving multiple fund sources (e.g., state appropriations, federal funds, restricted gifts, grants, endowments, auxiliary accounts) and the ability to navigate their differing rules and restrictions.
- Ability to interpret and apply institutional, state, federal, and sponsor financial policies across a variety of account types.
- Proficiency with enterprise financial systems (especially Oracle) and advanced Excel skills for budget modeling, forecasting, and data reconciliation.
- Familiarity with international payment mechanisms, vendor onboarding requirements, and documentation standards.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and support dynamic international initiatives with tight timelines.
- Assists the Vice Provost for International Affairs and each of the constituent units with administrative and fiscal management of our large/complex unit.
