Responsible for the administrative and technical support of transportation planning aspects, including, but not limited to private development, master plans, special districts, City standards and ordinances, parking management, schools, and neighborhoods; manage the City’s relationship with the third-party vendor overseeing the School Crossing Guard Program, ensuring contract compliance and communication.

DUTIES
  • Provide technical assistance and information to internal and external stakeholders and participate in construction and inspection of transportation elements on private development design, special projects and reviews from initiation to final acceptance.
  • Assist staff in comprehensive transportation development reviews and in the review of traffic engineering and operations, traffic impact studies, traffic control plans, and mobility improvement proposals.
  • Ensure transportation planning coordination between multimodal transportation Citywide, including, but not limited to comprehensive plans, mobility plans, and parks master plans.
  • Conduct field audits and inspections of streets, intersections, and pedestrian infrastructure for traffic operations, road safety, visibility, and American with Disabilities Act (ADA) evaluations.
  • Support staff in evaluating requests for signage, pavement markings, traffic calming measures, and road safety.
  • Monitor construction zones for traffic control plans and compliance and coordinate with project managers; may conduct site inspections and investigate violations at all construction phases.
  • Support the School Crossing Guard Program, ensuring vendor onboarding, performance reporting, and training coordination with school districts, police departments, and City staff.
  • Provide recommendations on improvements in transportation systems and/or projects based on economic, population, land‑use or traffic projections.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify capital needs based on development demands and revised zoning.
  • Approve right‑of‑way and design changes for private development projects.
  • Attend meetings and assist with negotiation, mediation, and consulting with developers, consultants, and contractors concerning private development requirements, pay estimates, and change orders.
  • Research and assist with analytical and developmental recommendations relating to engineering plans, specifications and reports on improvements and new construction for the City of Denton.
  • Assist staff in drafting technical reports, maps, and visualizations for internal and public use.
  • Provide administrative assistance with council agenda items for private development or other special projects.
  • Research and respond to public, interdepartmental, and City official inquiries.
  • Maintain department records and prepare reports related to development and departmental activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Transportation, Engineering, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, or related field; and,

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of transportation and traffic engineering principles, road safety, and urban planning.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Government laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Skill in reading, comprehending, and interpreting highly technical or specialized materials, including, but not limited to plans, blueprints, schematics, code requirements, permitting processes, and/or other related development documents.
