Position Overview
A Postdoctoral Researcher position in functional materials additive manufacturing (AM) is available in the Center for Agile and Adaptive Manufacturing (CAAAM) (caaam.unt.edu), a State of Texas funded multimillion dollar initiative with a multidisciplinary focus on further advancing the science and technology of additive manufacturing (AM). with the emphasis of the position will be on the development of nanomaterials for AM and understanding of AM process optimization, functional materials design and compositional grading, electrochemical and piezoelectric responses in AM components.
The postdoctoral researcher will work with staff members and technologists within CAAAM in using a range of techniques to characterize key properties of nanomaterials/composites and performance of AM components. Should be familiar with and able to synthesize nanomaterials/composites and slurries for AM, and characterize the materials and structures using various electrical and electrochemical and other standard mechanical testing. The specific Postdoctoral Researcher roles are:
Development of novel AM processes and materials, with particular emphasis on multilaterals printing;
Design and development of novel (3D/4D) electronic devices and rechargeable batteries by AM process;
Nanocomposite formulating, including optimization of compounding procedures, particle loading, and particle surface modifications;
Work with various nanoparticles, particularly 2D materials (MoS2, WS2) and carbon based (CNTs, graphene) including particle modification (chemical surface treatments);
Perform materials characterization, including: electrochemical characterization, Battery performance test, CV, EIS, Raman, XPS, SEM, and piezoelectricity;
Electrical testing, including IV measurement, piezoelectricity, dielectric constant;
Mechanical testing, including standard measurements;
Basic lab and equipment maintenance;
Support graduate and undergraduate students, assist/lead preparation of research proposals and scientific/technical papers and presentations.
Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. Research experience and track record of publications in AM, nanomaterials, energy storages and electronic sensing devices. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
