Senior Coordinator of Writing and Language Support Programs

JOB SUMMARY

Performs administrative work to support and enhance the effectiveness of English, Rhetoric, and Spanish (ERS) initiatives including First-Year Composition (FYC) and dual credit, The Write Site, and Spanish Learning Support within the department of Language, Culture, and Gender Studies. Work includes report preparation, review and preparation of student files, support for events such as student enrollment, assistance with planning staff and faculty training and professional development, maintaining scheduling of courses and tutor schedules, communicating with faculty, adjunct faculty, writing, and Spanish tutors.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Tutoring and Director of FYC. Performance evaluation is based on completion of assignments and attainment of desired results. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

For the Write Site and Spanish Learning Support, the Coordinator supports a Director, a Graduate Assistant Director, and a staff of approximately 20-30 tutors in any given semester. For the FYC program, the coordinator supports a Director, Associate Director, Graduate Assistant Director(s), and approximately 40-50 FYC instructors (graduate students, adjunct, full-time faculty, and dual credit) in any given semester. The coordinator manages the dual credit program by: observing instructors, planning orientation and professional development, communicating between department leadership and dual credit partners, and collaborating with the Dual Credit Office to improve conversion of dual credit students to fully matriculated full-time TWU students.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Supervises:
No supervisory responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES -May include, but not limited to the following:

Assists with tutoring students across academic disciplines at the Write Site when scheduling necessitates

• Supports writing tutor work through training, creating, and compiling resources

• Develops and monitors tutor schedules

• Manages office and oversight of writing center space

• Collects data, performs analysis, and prepares university reports to support Write Site and First Year Composition programs, assessment, and administration

• Assists in development of First Year Composition and Write Site operational support procedures such as enrollment, advising, and assessment

• Works with First Year Composition director to set First Year Composition course appointments and schedules

• Assists FYC and Write Site directors with event coordination and management including orientation, guest speakers, professional development, and pedagogy workshops. This may involve preparation of materials, event scheduling, booking rooms, site location preparation, marketing and communication, or participation in planning committees

• Gathers and manages documents, files, and storage for First Year Composition and Write Site including student records, syllabi, assessment documents, instructor records, and program records

• Demonstrates knowledge of tech, software, equipment, and other support for writing center and FYC classrooms

• Conducts research in support of writing center and FYC initiatives

• Promotes the FYC and Write Site services and opportunities to students and maintains welcoming, inclusive atmosphere

• Supports dual credit program by observing instructors, planning orientation and professional development, communicating between department leadership and dual credit partners.

• Reviews dual credit literature syllabi prior to the beginning of each semester.

• Collaborates with the Dual Credit Office to improve conversion of dual credit students to fully matriculated full-time TWU students

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in an area generally related to program content or assigned responsibilities.
