Department Summary
The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health and urban design.
Position Overview
The Senior Academic Advisor provides comprehensive support to FTIC, transfer, and non-traditional students within the College of Health & Public Service. This role involves guiding students through degree requirements, course planning and graduation processes while promoting student engagement and academic success.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.

Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience and advanced knowledge of student advising practices, including familiarity with university and college policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively interpret and communicate academic information across a wide range of majors and disciplines.
- In-depth understanding of degree programs, with a strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to solve complex academic and administrative problems.
- Excellent communication skills, along with proven self-direction, managerial and supervisory capabilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various university offices.
- A commitment to student success and collegial engagement, with a passion for fostering active involvement among students and colleagues.
Job Duties
- Advanced Advising Expertise. Provides high-level academic advising to FTIC, transfer, and non-traditional students.
- Training and Development. Coordinates and supports training initiatives for advisors and departmental staff.
- Program Coordination and Implementation. Oversees the execution of assigned advising initiatives.
- Quality Assurance and Process Improvement. Conducts quality checks on advising-related projects and outcomes.
- Academic Planning and Documentation. Collaborates with HPS leadership to produce academic documents and career development materials.
