Trainee Water Leakage Engineer at RPS
RPS seeks Trainee Leakage Engineers to join our Water Operations Division in Wales. Roles are available in West, North East, North West and South Wales. This permanent, full‑time position works Monday to Friday 07:00‑15:30, with overtime, bonus and benefits, and includes a company van.
Team and ResponsibilitiesAs a key member of the Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) business, your role as Trainee Leakage Technician is critical to our strategic priorities – to deliver great work for our clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks. You will need to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings and overtime when required, and be willing to travel to different locations.
- Diagnose and determine appropriate solutions to reduce leakage, supporting regulatory targets with high service quality.
- Maintain Health and Safety standards.
- Achieve KPI targets and deliver leakage detection/reduction within DMA’s.
- Attend excavations requested by R&M to assist leak location.
- Train and mentor assistant leakage technicians.
- Handle general admin tasks: electronic timesheets, vehicle checks and defect reporting.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with colleagues, contractors and clients.
- Any prior experience in a similar role is useful; we will train you in water network hydraulics, leakage detection techniques, monitoring/reporting of leakage levels and other clean water industry issues.
- Learn and develop knowledge of utility tracing, noise logging and step‑testing planning/operation to capture pressure, flow and flow data.
- Work well under pressure, manage conflicting deadlines, maintain attention to detail and high standards.
- Team player who solves problems within defined procedures and is flexible, cooperative, giving and receiving help and knowledge.
- Great written and verbal communication skills.
- Customer focused and able to build and maintain strong working relationships.
- Report findings quickly and accurately.
Full UK driving licence.
Health and Safety- Move heavy items, including inspection chamber covers.
- Work in all weather conditions, including night work.
- Potential work in confined spaces and on highways.
- Mandatory drug and alcohol tests and a DBS check will be undertaken.
