The NCIA internship is a 6-month program based at one of our key hubs in The Netherlands, Belgium or Portugal. Our internship opportunities start from either 1 March or 1 September with the start date being dependent on the timeline to secure the required security clearance to work within the NATO community. During an internship, you will join and support a diverse international team and simultaneously learn from our experts via on-the-job training, working independently on purposeful projects or initiatives during your tenure.

The Agency Security Office (ASO) provides a unified, coordinated approach to protecting personnel, facilities, assets, and information systems, while also maintaining independence from the execution elements of the NCIA. This structure enhances efficiency, improves risk management, and strengthens resilience by aligning physical and CIS security measures under cohesive leadership, aligned with NATO policy. For Protective Security, the ASO exercises oversight over NCIA Protective Security Services, which protect and defend personnel, facilities, resources and information from threats posed by terrorism, espionage, sabotage, subversion and any catastrophic incident/disaster.

For CIS Security, the ASO also provides the CIS Information Security Officer function for the NCIA, exercising oversight over information security across the NCIA

The selected intern will analyze current procedures managed through the MS SharePoint portal and propose improvements to make them more agile and efficient. You will review existing processes, identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks, enhance automation, and support data analysis to recommend changes that improve overall effectiveness. The role requires engaging stakeholders to clarify needs and requirements and defining relevant KPIs for monitoring and assessing outcomes.

By modernizing long-standing procedures previously handled via paper or email, you will contribute to streamlined workflows and measurable performance improvements.
