Vacancy for Audiovisual Archivist at United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals

The position of Audiovisual Archivist is located in the Archives and Records Section, Registry, Hague Branch. Under the supervision of the Archivist, OIC MARS, the incumbent will be part of the team responsible for managing the records of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals ("Mechanism") and the archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda ("ICTR") and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia ("ICTY").

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies, policies, and procedures for managing the Mechanism's audiovisual records, in collaboration with other Archivists.
  • Advise officials and staff on record-keeping practices related to audiovisual records.
  • Plan, organize, monitor, and evaluate projects to improve record-keeping, including feasibility studies, analysis, design, development, and implementation, as well as recruitment or procurement of skills and materials.
  • Manage the preservation and access of audiovisual archives of the ICTR, ICTY, and IRMCT, including development and implementation of related strategies and policies.
  • Oversee acquisition, accessioning, arrangement, description, storage, preservation, and conservation of audiovisual archives.
  • Lead digitization efforts and prepare audiovisual archives for digital preservation systems.
  • Research and evaluate new systems or tools for audiovisual archive management, and recommend deployment strategies.
  • Enhance accessibility of audiovisual archives through metadata creation and capture.
  • Determine requests for access, provide access and assistance, especially in judicial contexts, collaborating with the Audiovisual Technician.
  • Support advocacy and outreach activities related to audiovisual records, including research and presentation materials.
  • Manage the section’s records repositories, ensuring standards are maintained.
  • Coordinate transfer, deaccessioning, and disposition of audiovisual records and archives according to policies.
  • Participate in implementing information security, access regimes, and liaise with client offices on classification matters.
  • Contribute to disaster preparedness, response, and recovery planning.
  • Supervise, guide, and train staff, and oversee contractors or interns.
  • Support continuous improvement of operations, including staying updated on professional developments and supporting audits and reviews.
  • Assist in planning, budgeting, procurement, and other administrative functions as needed.
