Description of JobThe Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) position is a General Maintenance Supervisor for the Delta Correctional Center (DCC), a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) prison facility. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; training and overseeing an inmate work crew in general building trades, grounds maintenance, and janitorial operations and ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant completion of assigned tasks.
This position promotes the CDOC Mission and Vision with integrity and commitment.
Position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication trains and guides inmates in the proper use of controlled items, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches and monitoring workplace environment and inmate behavior, paying close attention to changes, inappropriate activity or potential problems; initiates verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically controls inmates with the proper application of restraints or “use of force” techniques;
monitors, supervises and escorts inmates according to policy and limits inmate access to restricted areas; position performs inmate counts and transportation; responds to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to policy and writes and submits required reporting. Through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, position promotes a safe and secure environment.
Position ensures the safe, efficient, compliant and cost effective operations of building and grounds construction, janitorial operations, repair or maintenance.
Building MaintenancePosition is responsible for the maintenance of facility buildings to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, remodeling and repairs; provides instruction and training to inmates in modifying and remodeling of prison buildings that are constructed of various materials (which may include steel, rock, brick, masonry, wood, plaster and pre‑stressed concrete); provides training in the design, installation and repair & maintenance of all facility structures;
trains inmate workers in the proper use, care and accountability of applicable tools, equipment, chemicals and machinery to ensure safe, compliant and efficient completion of projects.
