Cascadia Metals is actively seeking qualified candidates for the position of Shipping/ receiving Coordinator, to work out of our head office branch in Delta, BC. You will be primarily responsible for administrative human resource duties for 10 branches and growing, although no travel will be required. Most of the work is office-based, but you'll also spend some time outside in the yard checking trucks or containers and helping when needed.

You'll be trained to cover four different traffic desks, In-Town, Out-of-Province, Pool Truck, and Incoming Freight. When all coordinators are in the office, you'll assist wherever help is needed, including supporting other departments.

On a typical day, you might be coordinating shipments, preparing paperwork, talking with drivers, checking on incoming railcars or containers, updating spreadsheets, and stepping outside briefly to verify a load. About 85–90% of the role is office work, with the remaining time spent outside as needed.

This role is a great fit for someone who learns quickly, asks questions, and enjoys solving problems as they come up.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage for four traffic desks when coordinators are away:
    • Intown (local deliveries and pickups)
    • Out of Province (interprovincial shipments)
    • Pool Trucks (BC Interior and Island shipments)
    • Incoming Freight (railcars, containers, and break bulk)
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving activities, including scheduling pickups and deliveries.
  • Prepare and review shipping and receiving documents such as Bills of Lading and receiving paperwork.
  • Check incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy and visible damage.
  • Communicate daily with production, sales, drivers, warehouses, and terminals to keep freight moving.
  • Track shipments, update internal systems, and maintain spreadsheets and records.
  • Help investigate shortages, overages, damages, or delays and assist with resolving issues.
  • Step outside to perform load checks, inspect trucks or containers, and support yard staff when needed.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs safely and follow all safety procedures.
  • Pitch in where needed and help other departments when workload allows.

Requirements

  • Comfortable working on a computer, with strong Excel skills and experience using Outlook.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to stay organized while handling multiple tasks.
  • Clear and professional communication skills both, written and verbal.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and understand multiple traffic desks over time.
  • Able to work independently but also enjoy being part of a team.
  • Comfortable going outside in all weather for short periods.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs when required.
  • Experience in shipping, receiving, or dispatch.
