SUMMARY: Performs maintenance, repair, alteration and installation tasks, including renovations and modifications. May perform minor elements of other trades.
Qualifications- Successful completion of a Secondary school graduation program or equivalent.
- Completion of post secondary B.C. Trades Qualification Certificate relevant to the specific trade - Carpentry.
- Minimum of 5 years recent experience working in the trade.
- Skill in the use of tools of the trade.
- Ability to read blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain a large variety of machinery.
- Valid B.C. Driver's License. Safe driving record.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
- Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to use judgement when providing information.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a crew.
- Current and thorough knowledge of related standards, practices, regulations, codes and methods.
- Knowledge of WCB and WHMIS regulations. Safe work habits.
- Some positions may require the knowledge of a language other than English.
- Maintains and repairs buildings including renovations and modifications; reads blueprints and specifications, plans project layout, estimates material quantities, etc.
- Constructs and repairs cabinets, shelving units, cupboards, furniture and a variety of office and school furnishings and equipment. Laminates counter/desk tops, etc. Modifies furnishings and equipment for specialty use.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repair services throughout the District.
- Performs earthquake-proofing tasks on District premises.
- May install, repair and replace baseboards, stair treads and various types of floor coverings (tile and brick, linoleum, carpet and wood.).
- May maintain master keying system for district. Maintains, updates and secures records of lock and key combinations throughout the District. Cuts, duplicates and distributes master and initial keys.
- May install, tape and fill drywall; repair kilns; spray textured ceilings and patch stucco.
- Uses a variety of carpentry tools such as power and manual planes, saws, routers, shapers, drills, etc. including tools related to floor-laying and locksmith trades work.
- Loads and unloads vehicles; transports materials and equipment as needed. Cleans, checks and confirms operational safety of vehicle.
- Ensures tools, equipment and work areas are clean and safe. Requests supplies, parts and equipment as needed. Maintains inventory of parts and materials.
- Remains current with changing technology, practices and equipment.
- Applies safe work practices at all times. Reports unsafe conditions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
