Payroll Specialist - Canada
GoGlobal is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and experienced Payroll Specialist to support end-to-end payroll operations in Canada. In this role, you will manage in-house payroll processes for employees, ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance, and process timely salary payments. You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to support process improvement and automation of payroll activities.
Role & Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the end-to-end payroll process for Canadian employees, including payroll input validation, calculations, and execution.
- Manage complex in-house Canadian payroll, ensuring accuracy and legal adherence.
- Generate payslips, validate outputs, and ensure timely distribution in a compliant manner.
- Compute workers’ net pay based on time records, benefits, taxes, and other relevant items.
- Respond to inquiries on salaries, deductions, attendance, time records, and other payroll-related matters.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal payroll requirements (e.g., CPP, EI, income tax, WSIB/CNESST).
- Calculate gross-ups, simulations, and any on-demand payroll requests from internal stakeholders.
- Prepare payroll reports for record-keeping and managerial review.
- Validate payroll outputs, investigate discrepancies, and ensure timely resolutions with internal teams and clients.
- Adhere to payroll policies and procedures and comply with applicable laws.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in timesheets and all payroll-related tasks.
- Serve as a payroll subject matter expert, offering timely advice to internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate and ensure timely remittance and filings to government authorities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records in line with audit and data protection standards.
- Participate in year-end tax processes, including T4, RL-1 slips, and reconciliation reports.
- Support audits and internal payroll reviews as needed.
- Contribute to process improvement and automation activities.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- 2+ years of progressive Canadian payroll experience. Due to the nature of the role, only candidates with direct Canadian payroll processing experience will be considered.
- Payroll Certification (CPP, PCP, or equivalent) is required.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian labour laws and payroll practices (familiarity with multiple provinces is a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- ADP Workforce experience is a plus; candidates with hands-on experience using other payroll and HRIS platforms are encouraged to apply.
- Advanced-level Excel capabilities are essential for success in this role.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
