Electrician

Overview

Provides skilled electrical and mechanical work to keep the water treatment plant, pump stations, wells and lift stations, operating or in city buildings, facilities and related appurtenances. Work is performed under general supervision.

• Performs electrical and mechanical work in water treatment plant, lift stations, wells (raw water), and pump stations or city owned buildings, facilities and other related areas.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities.
• Maintain and repair telemetry equipment electrical equipment, HVAC, street and parking lot lighting.
• Perform maintenance work as directed.
• Assist other mechanics or tradesmen as needed.
• Provide support for numerous special events.
• Must be on call and work overtime as needed.

• Knowledge of electrical equipment, controls, telemetry used in treatment plants and lift stations or HVAC, commercial and light industrial applications.
• Knowledge of high and low voltage controls.
• Ability to read plans, install electrical apparatus and install conduit systems.
• Electrical and mechanical skills required.
• Ability to perform manual labor as needed.

• High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency Diploma.
• Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the electrical trade or related field.

• Possession of a valid Palm Beach County Journeyman Electrician License.
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s license with a good driving record.

A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

• Essential physical skills:
  Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction); acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid); ability to lift up to 45 lbs; reaching, climbing, pulling, walking, standing, crawling or kneeling; depth perception, color discrimination; bending, stooping, driving.
• Environmental conditions:
  
  Works inside/outside with noise, fumes, gases, electrical energy, slippery or uneven surfaces; heights up to 60 feet; below ground level.
