THEPOSITION:
The Chief Estimator is responsible for delivering accurate budgets, cost estimates, and bid packages for complex vertical construction projects. This role supports projects delivered under CM at Risk (GMP), Lump Sum, Design‑Build, and hybrid delivery methods. You will work closely with project executives, project managers, designers, and trade partners, while also mentoring junior estimating staff. This is a high‑impact role supporting major projects across South Florida with strong long‑term growth potential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates across all CSI divisions for schematic, design development, and construction document phases.
- Develop clear assumptions, clarifications, and pricing narratives in collaboration with project management and senior leadership.
- Solicit, analyze, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing to ensure complete and competitive coverage.
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site walks, and post‑bid interviews as required.
- Review drawings and specifications for constructability, risk, and value engineering opportunities.
- Develop unit pricing and conceptual estimates to support early project planning.
- Lead value management and value engineering exercises, analyzing first cost versus life‑cycle cost impacts.
- Manage multiple estimates simultaneously across various delivery methods including CMAR, Lump Sum, and Design‑Build.
- Maintain responsibility for complete estimate development, ensuring all scopes and divisions are fully accounted for.
- Demonstrate technical competence across all MEP scopes, coordinating effectively with design teams and trade partners.
- Support purchasing and buyout activities as needed and assist with early operations handoff.
- Serve as Bid Captain on Lump Sum or hard‑bid projects, overseeing scope assignments, bid schedules, subcontractor coverage, bid‑day strategy, and final bid summaries.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and oversight to junior estimators, interns, and project engineers.
- 8-10+ years of experience in construction estimating.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred.
- Experience across markets such as municipal, higher education, healthcare, public schools, assisted living, multifamily, hospitality, or private commercial work.
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Solid understanding of construction contracts and delivery methods.
- Advanced proficiency with estimating software and digital takeoff tools (e.g., Smart Bid, On‑Screen Takeoff).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
